A $1000 Apple Watch? Why?
We are sure by now you've heard of the Apple Watch Ultra, Apple's latest addition to its successful Apple Watch lineup. While it is a more rugged and durable version of the regular Apple Watch, in a world full of outdoor-oriented smartwatches at a 5th of the price what makes this one worth it you ask? (We were thinking the same thing! 🤔)
What are these "special features"...
To start off, the Apple Watch Ultra has a 49mm titanium case that is more durable than the aluminum or stainless steel cases on the regular Apple Watch. The Apple Watch Ultra can also be submerged in water up to 100 meters deep, while the regular Apple Watch is only water-resistant up to 50 meters. Making it perfect for exploration on land or sea.
Not really that outdoorsy?
Well... the Apple Watch Ultra still has some cool features for you! It features a longer battery life than the regular Apple Watch, with up to 60 hours of use on a single charge. The Apple Watch Ultra also has a brighter display than the regular Apple Watch, with a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits compared to 1,000 nits on the regular Apple Watch. Oh and we almost forgot, the Ultra has advanced health sensors, including temperature sensing for insights into women's health and crash detection.
So... Should you buy it?
While all the features listed above are great the elephant in the room is still the $1000 price tag! If you don't need the added durability or advanced health sensors, you may be better off with a less expensive model like the Series 8 or SE. But if you are an adventurer or need a more durable smartwatch, the Ultra may be worth the investment!
Ultimately, the decision to buy an Apple Watch Ultra depends on your specific needs and preferences and if you need that social validation of having the latest, greatest and flashiest piece of the tech that Apple has to offer. However, if you don't need these features or care about validation from others, a less expensive model may be a better choice.
